hermit crabs

Mya & Scott are off to the boardwalk to purchase a new hermit crab. The one we bought a few weeks ago just keeled over today...after losing its claws. I think it was sickly in the first place, but who knows?! So, Mya grieved over Melody, the now dead hermit crab--which was her first pet. Hopefully this next one will be more hardy. Ocean City's boardwalk is full of shops that sell these suckers, and since we've denied Mya a pet so far, we thought this was a good first pet--cheap, low-maintenance, no dander, portable, etc.

Life on summer project is great in the fact that it is pretty streamlined and has less complexities. 5 out of 7 nights we have dinner provided, the focus of what we're doing is narrower, and lots of other "life" things are just on hold...no major house cleaning, no mowing the lawn or gardening, no keeping up with church life, no lessons to cart the kids to...

We've been here 5 weeks today and will leave on July 10. THen we're off to NH to visit Marty and Judy and their 3 kiddos. Then both of our families will do a short vacation in Bar Harbor, ME/Acadia National Park. Can't wait!

The twins will turn 3 on July 2, here on project...we'll be unveiling new little bikes for them, along with a small party. Another great thing about summer projects: instant invite list of kids and their parents, with low expectations on a big party or fancy fixings. And communal living. We live below another staff family with 3 kids (they have twins, too!), and we're up and down a lot with one another. We walk everywhere and just do life in a microcosm. It's not reality, but we'll take it and enjoy it for 8 weeks.

  1. Hi UnChong... this is Jen...love your thoughts on summer projects.. i'm not sure if you knew, we're here at the Santa Monica summer project and the Michaelians are here too.. It's been a huge blessing for all of us. I like the communal living too.. their apt is the next building over, but still very close. How fun you're neighbors with the Barela's too.... look forward to seeing you at CSU!!!
