My Spring Break at Home

We're pretty much at the end of spring break 2010 and I'm sad it is ending, even though we didn't do anything all that exciting. It's just the slower pace of life that is so enjoyable! Here are some highlights:

1. I did my 9 mile run on early Tuesday morning to continue preparing for the Champaign (half) Marathon on May 1. It felt so long that I was convinced it was lunch time by the time I ended. Surprisingly, I stayed on pace....even though I limped the last quarter mile due to pain in one of my feet. I wonder how good this really is for me? Good for heart, not so good for hips, feet, knees. But I'm truly thrilled to be doing this challenge and hope that race day will not disappoint.

2. The weather was pretty sweet for a couple of the days so we got to spend some good time outdoors. I love our cul-de-sac and the fact that we can just ride bikes and play in a pretty low-traffic area. We also had a late afternoon venture to Hessel Park, after which we had an impromptu dinner at Monical's Pizza. Mya said "this is the best day; I don't want it to end!" She was so happy from just the simple things: having dad at home, going to the park all together, and a pizza dinner.

3. There was no piano lesson this week and no homeschool co-op. Amazing that even with a couple of commitments gone, I felt so free! We did crank through 2-weeks of school, however, so we feel very productive. (I know it was spring break, but it's so easy to get extra school done when Scott and I are both home. Plus, Mya asked to do more school so we can get done earlier in May. She understands delayed gratification! So we were not being mean parents by pushing school on spring break :)).

4. We finally got to have some friends over for dinner that we've been meaning to for a long time. It's just that everyone is so stinkin' busy! So we had everything I was craving that night: enchiladas, fresh guacamole, fresh corn/black bean/mango salsa, and strawberry trifle to top it off. I did eat too much dessert this week.

5. It's always a treat when Scott is home and we can just do life with the kids together in a more relaxed pace. It was a great week of productivity (Scott even cleaned out the garage) and restful-ness. Now we have to crank out the last 6 weeks of campus and then turn around to leave on May 15 for our summer assignment in Ocean City, NJ again. Sighhh...all that sounds like crazy busy-ness, so I'm even more grateful for having had a week like this one.
